Purpose and Reason :

The Rhode Island Works Program (R.I. Gen. Laws Chapter 40-5.2-1 et seq.) establishes the legal basis for a welfare to work program to assist needy families to prepare for, accept and retain employment with necessary supports, as quickly as possible, and is the law through which the Federal assistance program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, is available to families in Rhode Island who meet program eligibility criteria.

Editorial Notes :

The agency filed this emergency amendment to revise the content of the emergency amendment effective on 04/24/2020. The ineffective date of the amendment filed on 4/24/2020 was 08/22/2020 and would be 10/21/2020 with a 60-day extension. Therefore, the ineffective date for this amendment was changed to correspond with the previous amendment's ineffective date.

Brief statement of Reason for Finding Imminent Peril :

Due to the COVID-19 crisis and the National State of Emergency, the Department is prepared to waive some requirements for benefit access to applicants and recipients of the Rhode Island Works Program.
