Purpose and Reason:

1. Recreational cod management (section 3.19.1):  Proposed prohibition to harvest, land, and possess Cod in the marine waters of Rhode Island while fishing recreationally.

2. Commercial cod management (section 3.19.2):  Proposed prohibition to harvest, land, and possess Cod in the marine waters of Rhode Island while fishing commercially, with the following exception:   Vessels that possess a federal permit authorizing the commercial harvest of Cod and are part of a NOAA Fisheries approved Northeast Multispecies Sector may harvest, possess, or land Cod in State waters in the amount equal to the Federal Regulations.


This proposed rule is in response to a rule filed by NOAA Fisheries for an emergency action that establishes measures necessary for the Northeast Multispecies fishery to operate at the beginning of fishing year 2025 on May 1, 2025.
