Regulation Authority :

R.I. Gen. Laws § Chapter 23-27.3

Purpose and Reason :

RISBC-2 State One and Two-Family Code sets forth the requirements for building structures in Rhode Island.    Rhode Island Building Codes are amendments to the International Building Codes which we use as our model.  The State Building Code Standards Committee has reviewed this regulation and proposes the following non-technical amendments as described below:

·         All references to International Residential Code (“IRC”) 2015, have been changed to the 2018 edition.  Some IRC section numbers have been amended to conform to IRC 2018.

·         Throughout the regulation: updated internal cross-references with new RICR citations and references to the 2021 version for all Parts in Title 510 being amended this year.

Chapter 1: Administration R105.2 Building - changed the minimum floor area from 64 square feet to 200 square feet and in the Exceptions, removed the “less than 64 square feet” from Swings and other playground and play structures.

Chapter 2: Definitions – Added a definition for “Accessory Dwelling Unit”
