Type of Filing Amendment
Regulation Status Active
Effective 04/19/2020 to 08/17/2020

Regulation Authority :

R.I. Gen. Laws § § 23-4.1-10(B)

Purpose and Reason :

To allow EMS practitioners to collect specimens to test for COVID-19 in order to restrict the spread of the disease.

Brief statement of Reason for Finding Imminent Peril :

COVID-19, the new disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, has been deemed a global pandemic. It continues to spread and threatens to overwhelm the state’s ability to respond. Aggressive and sustained efforts are necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19 and lessen the strain on our health care system. Allowing EMS practitioners to collect specimens to test for COVID-19 will mean that medical professionals have earlier access to patients’ specimens and earlier patient diagnostic information; these time savings will result in earlier outreach and notification to potentially infected persons, leading to fewer COVID-19 infections.
