Purpose and Reason:

The purpose of this rule is to fulfill the statutory requirements of R.I.G.L. 28-30-22(b)(1) to "adopt and review protocols and standards of treatment for compesable injury". The purpose of this amendment is to revise the Pharmaceutical Protocol, Radial Tunnel Syndrome Protocol and the Diagnosis and Initial Treatment of Occupational Asthma Protocol. Substantive difference between the proposed rule and the final rule: The changes to the Radial Tunnel Syndrome Protocol and the Diagnosis and Initial Treatment of Occupational Asthma Protocol were adopted as proposed. None of the proposed changes to the Pharmaceutical Protocol were adopted. Public comment from interested parties led the Board to conclude that further study was needed on this topic before any changes were adopted.
