Purpose and Reason:
The within rules and regulations are proposed by the Board of Elections to ensure the orderly conduct of elections and enforce the provisions of Rhode Island General Laws 17-19-37 and 17-19-37.3. The rules and regulations determine when a recount of a ballot question can be requested, and the group or people who are eligible to request a recount of a ballot question. As a result of the hearing before the Board of Elections the following changes were made that were not originally part of the proposed text: Section 3: Eliminated the requirement that the group/organization file a list of its members contact information with the Board of Elections seven days prior to Election Day.
