Purpose and Reason:

Pesticides are valuable to our state's agricultural production and to the protection of man and the environment from diseases, invasive plant species and general insect and plant pests, etc. It is essential to pulic health and the environmental that they be regulated to prevent adverse effects. The Rhode island Pesticide regulations were originally promulgated in 1987, and are in need of updating and modification to acheive public health and environmental protection goals, satisfy recent Federal statutory mandates and ensure consistency with other state regulations. The current regulations as written are somewhat vague in areas and do not address current issues, therefore, the purpose of the amendments is to clarify ambiguities and address problems that have been identified over the years with respect to pesticide applications in and around agricultural, commercial and residential properties.
