Purpose and Reason:
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) policy has been revised to reflect a change in the amount of the mandatory Standard Utility Allowance used to calculate a household's income for the purposes of determining eligibility for, and the amount of, SNAP benefits. Beginning January 15, 2012, the Standard Utility Allowance (SUA) will be increased from $576 to $590 per month. All SNAP recipients will have their eligibility re-evaluated from October 1, 2011 forward, based on the increased amount of the SUA. In addition, a technical revision was made to Section 1038.20.05 to clarify the rules relating to calculating income for SNAP eligibility.
Brief statement of Reason for Finding Imminent Peril:
To avoid the wrongful denial/discontinuance of benefits to applicants/beneficiaries.
