Purpose and Reason:
The Federal Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 changed the name of the federal Food Stamp Program to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Effective October 1, 2009, the name of the Food Stamp Program in Rhode Island will officially change to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Any references in the Rhode Island General Laws or the Department of Human Services Code of Rules to the Food Stamp Program or Food Stamps shall be a reference to and deemed to be applicable to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
