Purpose and Reason:
The Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS), Rhode Island Medicaid is submitting a change request to the Rhode Island Global Choice Compact Waiver, with an effective date of July 1, 2012 to add nutrition services as medically necessary covered benefit. ‘Medical nutrition therapy,’ which is the terminology for nutrition counseling/education will now be available for adult Medicaid recipients who are enrolled in the Rhody Health Partners (RHP) Program and Connect Care Choice (CCC). Eligibility for nutrition services is limited to adults with disabilities/chronic conditions on Medicaid with specific diagnoses. This change was approved as part of the proposed Rhode Island state budget for fiscal year 2013. This change has been submitted as a Category II submission.
