Purpose and Reason:
Efective January 1, 2012, the resource limits for the Qualified Medicare Beneficiaries (QMB), Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiaries (SLMB),and Qualifying Individuals (QI) Programs have increased. The new resource limits are $6,940 for an individual and $10,410 for a couple. These resource limits are adjusted on January 1st of each year, based upon the change in the annual consumer price index (CPI) since September of the previous year.
Brief statement of Reason for Finding Imminent Peril:
This emergency amendment raises the resource limits to be consistent with provisions of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA), PL 110-275. Applications received from January 1, 2012 to the adoption of this rule will be reviewed using the higher resource limits.
