Purpose and Reason:
Supplemental Security Income is a federal program that provides monthly benefits to people who are age 65 or older, blind or disabled and who have low income and limited resources. The State of Rhode Island supplements the federal benefit rate. The Department of Human Services (DHS) began administering the state supplemental portion of monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits January 1, 2011. This revised rule provides guidance to the public on recertification procedures for the State Only Supplement Payment effective October 1, 2011.
