Purpose and Reason:
Starting January 1, 2014, as a result of the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid affordable care coverage is available for adults eligible and potentially eligible for General Public Assistance (age 19-64) with income up to 133% of the Federal Poverty Level who meet the age characteristic and do not have dependent children or Medicaid eligibility through some other coverage group. Individuals previously eligible for GPA medical will now be eligible to enroll in full Medicaid or to receive some financial help to pay for health care coverage through Rhode Island’s health insurance marketplace and on-line eligibility system. All current active GPA medical coverage recipients will remain active until their current period of eligibility runs out. GPA policy has been revised to reflect these changes.
