Purpose and Reason:

These specific emergency amendments to § 12.0 “Standards for Ambulances and Ambulance Services” permit the deployment of reserve vehicles by licensed ambulance services in Rhode Island for transporting persons under investigation for Ebola Virus Disease. Such reserve vehicles must meet, among others, the equipment and staffing requirements contained in these Regulations. These amendments are filed on an “emergency” basis in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Emergency medical services (EMS) in Rhode Island may be asked to transport a person under investigation for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). These amendments are part of the Department’s contingency planning for the care and safe transport of persons under investigation for Ebola Virus Disease.
