Purpose and Reason:
R. I. State Law (42-72.1) mandates that all foster homes for children be licensed and/or certified for use by the Department. The purpose of this law is to ensure that the quality of care which is provided to the child who is placed outside his/her home is as close as possible to society's standards of proper care and nurturing. In order to determine that the foster home meets minimum standards of health, safety, and care, the Department has developed specific procedures for processing the foster home license application.
