Purpose and Reason:
This amended rule, formerly entitled Social Security Benefits (SSI), outlines the process for identifying children and youth eligible for Supplemental Security Income through the United States Social Security Administration, as well as, the internal Department of Children, Youth and Family process for applying for and managing these benefits. The Rule amends the process for approving additional appropriate expenditures for children in care for whom the Department is the Representative Payee. In the amendment of this rule, consideration was given to the following: (1) alternative approaches and (2) overlap or duplication with other statutory and regulatory provisions. No alternative approach or duplication or overlap was identified based upon available information. No changes, other than editing changes, were made in the final rule.
