Purpose and Reason:
Supplemental Security Income is provided to children of any age who are disabled or blind according to established criteria. The Department as representative payee for a child in placement who is a SSI recipient has the responsibility to receive and use the SSI benefits in the best interests of and on behalf of the child. The benefits are applied toward the cost of care.
