Purpose and Reason:
Effective October, 2008, the Department of Human Services (DHS) will revise the “Expedited Services” provision of the Medical Assistance Program to: 1) exclude individuals who already receive home and community based services from receiving Expedited Services, 2) limit Expedited Services to only those individuals who are required to file an application for Long Term Care Medical Assistance in order to obtain home and community based services in order to avoid unnecessary nursing home placement, and who are assisted by a certified provider in the filing of this complete Long Term Care Medical Assistance application, 3) Expedited Services are limited to 21 days of: 10 hours weekly of personal care/homemaker services, and/or 3 days weekly of adult day care services, and 4) eliminate the requirement for a social work evaluation prior to the authorization of Expedited Services.
