Part 2 Secondary Design: Middle and High School Learning Environments and the Rhode Island Diploma System (200-RICR-20-10-2)
Type of Filing Amendment
Regulation Status Active
Effective 03/28/2023

Regulation Authority:

R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 16-60-4
16-67-6
16-7.1.2

Purpose and Reason:

- Section 2.3.1 on pages 8-11 outlines the most substantive change which is to align the required coursework high school students are required to take to the courses required to be considered eligible at URI and RIC. This does not change the number of total credits students will have to obtain but rather more clearly defines them(Ex: Math sequence including Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry rather than just requiring any 4 maths). All changes will be in effect for the class 2028.

- Section 2.3.2 on page 11 outlines three new proficiency requirements that students will be required to meet. These proficiency requirements include civics, financial literacy, and computer science. The civics and financial literacy proficiency requirements stem from recently passed legislation (H5028 and SB348)
