Purpose and Reason:

We have promulgated a new rule which has been added to the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island and Municipal Employees’ Retirement System current rules and regulations which is intended to aid in the administration of the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island and Municipal Employees’ Retirement System regarding Rhode Island General Laws, title 45 Chapter 21.2 and the definitions of police official, police officer and firefighter. The rule is intended to clarify which employees are considered police officials, police officers, and firefighters. There were no differences between the text of the proposed rule as published in the register and the text of the rules as adopted.
