Commission for Human Rights

About

The Commission enforces Rhode Island anti-discrimination laws in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, credit and delivery of services. The employment and public accommodations statutes prohibit discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, ancestral origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression. The employment statute also prohibits an employer from inquiring, with certain exceptions, as to an applicant’s conviction status. The credit statute prohibits discrimination on all of the aforementioned bases (except conviction status), as well as on the bases of familial status, military status and marital status. The housing statute prohibits discrimination on all of the bases covered by the credit statute, as well as on the bases of status as a victim of domestic abuse and housing status.
